If you have a lot of them as I did, it might be wise to try disabling 1/4 of them in blocks so you can narrow in on the source of the error. The first resolution that was suggested to me was to disable all add-ons for IE-7 - that was a little painful, but it made a noticiable difference.

I guess I started this thread, so let me update my recent discoveries! The only issue I have at the moment is that the TOOLS pop-up does not always activate without clicking on its taskbar icon occassionally.and sometimes new window focus is not popped to foreground without playing a little.

But in the end, that's a good thing - you just gotta know how to deal with its configuration.

TM Pro can be quite constrictive if you select Medium firewall defaults and do not configure specific application and OS componets for remote site addresssing, protocols, and ports.

I do not know how well Trend Protect and the internal IE7 "Protected Mode" w/Phishing Filter combinations mesh yet - guess that will pan out over time. Looks to me that Yahoo has serious problems with IE7 on both OSs, because I had to remove it from the XP version of IE7, as well. I had noticed that the text for the Yahoo Toolbar in the View pull-down was a little corrupted at installation time.as it was for XP-SP3. Beforehand, I had attempted to disablethe Yahoo toolbar and all its add-ins, but that had no affect on the issue. also, after removing Yahoo Toolbar, I had to reboot to detect any difference in operation. I had to completely remove Yahoo Toolbar and all of its add-ins to clean up my IE7 stalls and restarts, plus I doscovered that Windows downloads were being blocked by my Trend Micro 2008 Internet Pro security suite (with Trend Protect &.Keyboard Encryption active).

I think for my case it happend when i try to install Google talk. The registry however shows both as being the same build version.Īny further ideas as this really is one seriously big issue?! If I had the time I'd do a resintall and see if that cures it but I've already wasted all this afternoon and evening on this! The only difference is that the HTPC was installed from a pre-SP1 disc and then had SP1 applied spearately.

Now what really goats me is that this PC is THE SAME model with the same hardware and configuration as my HTPC in the front room which has had no issues so it cannot be an issue with my AV - that being the only other piece of software I installed on my main PC. It happens immediately with Payapl and with Gmail, IE either crashes and restarts for no reason or does it when you close the window. I decided today to reinstall Windows on my main PC which was XP SP2 and installed Vista Ultimate SP1 and ever since I've had this problem! I've done the IE reset "fix" as above, I've also turned off protected mode as some have said and have now even turned off User Control yet I still get the same problem. You can go into the computer repair business with this program! It's the best hundred bucks I've ever spent. Many times, on computers that won't boot to windows, it fixes the problem. Spinrite starts from a bootable CD, and checks the surface, repairs cross-linked and damaged data, blocks bad sectors, fixes data tables, just about everything including informing you that the drive is about to die and to back up because it's not going to last much longer. So Vista tries to repair the problem, but isn't intelligent enough to figure out that what it's doing is worse than the original problem. This computer by-the-way belonged to a friend that doesn't know very much about such things, and her remark to me was that 'Vista tries to anticipate what you want to do and always gets it wrong'. I tried everything, removing programs, resetting IE7, removing plugins, running chkdsk /r, running a registry repair utility. I don't think I could have fixed my system without re-installing. Apparently, this problem is due to some files being somehow crosslinked. So essentially, IE7 took out the operating system, which is something an advanced operating system should never do. It was sheer Vista Hell! IE7 kept restarting (even in safe mode!) and while restarting (constant restarting), Vista was locking me out of doing any other tasks. I recently had this (pardon the pun) "Experience" with Vista.
